Dozens injured in factory explosion in India's Gujarat

NEW DELHI, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of workers were injured on Wednesday in an explosion inside a chemical factory in India's western state of Gujarat, officials said.

The blast triggering fire went off at a plant in an industrial area in Dahej of Bharuch district, about 254 km south of Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat.

"Today a blast went off inside a chemical factory at Yashashvi Rasayan Private Limited here, following which it went up in flames," an official at Bharuch collectorate office said. "Many workers inside the factory were injured in a blast at Yashashvi Rasayan Private Limited."

The injured, according to officials, have been sent to hospitals.

Authorities have rushed fire tenders to the spot to contain the blaze.

Local media reports put the number of injured workers at 40, saying that residents close to the factory have been evacuated. Enditem
